October 11, 2014, Jennifer Laude, a 26-year-old transgender woman was found dead in a motel toilet in Olongapo City. She was killed by U.S. Marine, Private First Class Joseph Scott Pemberton, who was here in the Philippines for joint military exercise under the Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA).

And finally, after the long process, last December 1, 2015, Tuesday, Pemberton was found guilty of homicide for killing Jennifer Laude. He will face imprisonment from six to 13 years. Regional Trial Court Jabalde commanded him to pay P50,000 for his civil indemnity and almost 5 million pesos to Laude’s family for the expenses and moral damages that he has created.
